Now you're just being silly.
I already described how it is quite possible to get an octave-plus of
chromatic scale out of Holes 2 and 3 on a standard-tuned diatonic, as
long as you have a way of addressing the breath to a single reed in
both opening and closing modes. Just in case you missed the "how",
here's it is in detail:
Assume a C-harp in standard Richter tuning (could be another key) with
either a Discrete Comb or with Suzuki Overdrive covers.
D: Hole 2 Blow, bent down 2 semitones
D#: Hole 2 Blow, bent down 1 semitone
E: Hole 2 Blow, unbent
F: Hole 2 Draw, bent down 2 semitones
F#: Hole 2 Draw, bent down 1 semitone
G: Hole 2 draw, unbent
G#: Hole 3 Draw, bent down 3 semitones
A: Hole 3 Draw, bent down 2 semitones
A#: Hole 3 Draw, bent down 1 semitone
B: Hole 3 Draw, unbent
C: Hole 3 played as an overblow
C#: Hole 3 played as an overblow, bent up one semitone
D: C: Hole 3 played as an overblow, bent up two semitones
I'm not the only one who could do this. If Allen Holmes were doing
this, he use a Filisko customized diatonic (no special comb or covers).
He'd skip the blow bends on Hole 3 and instead just keep bending the
Draw 3 overblow up through D# and E and maybe beyond.
If you like, I can make an audio recording of the procedure detailed
above. Unfortunately I don't have a way of recording video for the
truly unbelieving (though that could also be faked), but I think there
are are enough folks on the list who could vouch for my truthfulness.
And there are plenty of folks who understand perfectly well why this
would work.
